Recognized as Corporate Brand of the Year 2019 and in the “Excellent Brands – Corporate Services” category

Recognized as Corporate Brand of the Year 2019 and in the “Excellent Brands – Corporate Services” category

Lufthansa Systems received two German Brand Awards yesterday evening in Berlin for its new and integrated brand identity. In addition to winning the Corporate Brand of the Year 2019 award, the airline IT provider also garnered a second award in the “Excellent Brands – Corporate Services” category. Both prizes recognize the outstanding cross-industry brand management in the competition’s most prestigious categories. Excellent Brands also honors the best product and corporate brands in an industry.

Lufthansa Systems̕ new brand identity aims to further increase the company’s visibility in the aviation market and enhance the brand’s emotional appeal with expressive messages and a modern look. “We are delighted to have been selected in what are the two most important categories for us. Our bold step to make extensive changes to the brand image at the beginning of the year has been rewarded,” said Olivier Krüger, CEO Lufthansa Systems, who accepted both awards yesterday evening together with Ansgar Lübbehusen, Head of Marketing & Communications. “Lufthansa Systems is an innovative company with extensive expertise in the airline IT sector. It was important for us to underpin this with our new brand identity and thus distinguish ourselves from the competition.”

The German Brand Award has been presented by the German Design Council and the German Brand Institute since 2016 to recognize successful brands, consistent brand management and sustainable brand communication. Lufthansa Systems already won two awards in 2017 – most notably for its redesigned brand center.

“We want Lufthansa Systems to become a special and unique brand without forgetting our roots within the Lufthansa family. In this process, we adopt an integrated brand approach because just changing our design was not enough for us. We use our new image story “We are into IT” to vividly and emotionally set us apart from the competition. Our new image has great recall value and conveys uniqueness and modernity. It is a tremendous honor for us that the expert jury has come to a similar conclusion,” said Ansgar Lübbehusen, Head of Marketing & Communications at Lufthansa Systems.

All nominated companies had to pass a review process with experts from companies, scientific institutions and agencies. To win a German Brand Award, companies need to meet as many criteria as possible in areas such as brand presentation and differentiation.

Successful pilot project with Lufthansa proves expertise in IATA ONE Order

Successful pilot project with Lufthansa proves expertise in IATA ONE Order

Lufthansa Systems recently received the IATA certification for ONE Order in the area of Accounting Providers and is therefore ONE Order capable. JR Technologies is the first vendor to achieve the highest ONE Order certification level in both Accounting Capability by partnering with Lufthansa Systems and in Delivery Capability Service through its DCS partners. Both airline IT specialists offer their expertise to airlines around the globe.

In a joint project, Lufthansa Systems and JR Technologies helped Lufthansa become the first airline worldwide to be ONE Order certified. One of the project objectives was to establish an end-to-end process for product offers, delivery and accounting based solely on the IATA standards New Distribution Capability (NDC) and ONE Order standards. In this pilot project, Lufthansa provided exclusive offers, including third-party ancillaries, to a dedicated target group on scheduled flights. These offers were priced by Lufthansa Systems’ Dynamic Pricing engine and processed through the JR Technologies Offer and Order Management System. Both flights and ancillaries were reported to Lufthansa Systems’ SIRAX® revenue accounting solution using the ONE Order messaging standard.

“We thank Lufthansa Systems and JR Technologies for their support in this pilot project and are very pleased to have become the first airline in the world to obtain the ONE Order certification from IATA,” says Christian Popp, the Lufthansa Group’s Head of Distribution and Revenue Management Strategy & Business Intelligence. “With the new ONE Order standard, we can even better address our customers’ needs, tap new potential, and create added value together with our system partners within the travel market.”

The ONE Order concept is designed to achieve a customer-oriented architecture with an efficient billing process and real-time synchronization of relevant information between all parties, including airline merchandizing delivery. ONE Order also facilitates universal, centralized access to a customer’s journey information, using a common data dictionary. This customer information, in turn, has a single identifier known as the order ID, which facilitates service delivery not only for the customer but also for the service providers, such as travel agents, interline partners, airports’ ground handling agents, catering companies, and third-party resellers. The new IATA standard NDC and ONE Order modernizes the system communication between airlines and travel service providers based on an XML messaging standard.

“ONE Order puts travelers at the center of the travel services value chain rather than viewing them as actors in a sequence of events. This fundamentally changes the way systems need to manage the information related to the customer’s journey,” says George Khairallah, CEO of JR Technologies. “JR Technologies and Lufthansa Systems have shown that airline retailing is a reality and that ONE Order simplifies an airline’s internal processes and will significantly improve how airlines interact with their customers.”

“The introduction of these new standards will fundamentally change ordering and billing processes and enable airlines to offer customer-specific services through their channels in the future,” says Andreas Reimann, Head of Finance & Commercial Products & Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “Our IATA certification and the successful pilot project show that we are ready to support our customers as regards NDC and ONE Order.”

Airline customers of Lido flight planning and navigation solutions meet in Rome | Lufthansa Systems presenting new functions within the Lido product family

Airline customers of Lido flight planning and navigation solutions meet in Rome | Lufthansa Systems presenting new functions within the Lido product family

Lufthansa Systems is welcoming representatives from 80 airlines from across the globe to the Lido User Group Conference in Rome from May 7 to 9. Over the coming days, the company’s airline IT experts will update around 310 attendees about the latest news and developments in its successful Lido portfolio.

This customer conference will focus on how airlines can further improve the efficiency of their flight operations. With almost 25 years of experience in complex airline processes, Lufthansa Systems is the market leader in many areas of aviation IT, including in flight planning with its Lido/Flight 4D solution. With its "Total Mission Optimization" (TMO) Lido product strategy, Lufthansa Systems is once again leading the way to a future of change. This strategy focuses on the close interplay between flight planning and navigation on the flight deck.

In addition to unveiling Lido Flight Planning Solutions for dispatchers and Lido Pilot Solutions for flight deck crew, the company also presents the latest news from Lido Data Solutions. The coordinated interaction between different areas enables these tried-and-tested Lido solutions to drive innovation for airlines.

“TMO allows us to look at each individual flight as an integrated mission, managed between dispatch and the flight deck,” explained Dr. Bernd Jurisch, Head of Flight & Navigation Products & Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “We presented the TMO concept for the first time at the Lido User Group Conference 2018, where it received a highly positive reception from our customers. We are looking forward to presenting our initial findings and subsequent developments here. By progressively developing and integrating the planning and navigation processes, we are optimizing flight operations in terms of fuel consumption, flight times and operating efficiency. Dispatchers can calculate the most suitable routes and pilots can fly them in the most efficient way, all while communicating continually with each other. Dynamically updating mission-critical data also increases safety.”

In addition to unveiling the latest product developments and offering related workshops, the conference also features presentations from industry partners. Highlights include Lido and its partner GE Aviation providing insight into the opportunities presented by “Connected FMS”, while Teledyne will give an overview of “Aircraft Interface Devices (AIDs) and Connectivity.” Other partners will also showcase themselves at the Market Place, which provides a forum for partners, product experts and customer representatives from around 80 airlines to have in-depth interactions.

“Total Mission Optimization is not a product. It describes the merger of our Lido portfolio that we are delivering and developing together with the airlines by maintaining an intensive and critical dialog at events such as the Lido User Group Conference,” said Jurisch. “Our aim is to offer the highest levels of quality and user-friendliness. We do this by interconnecting our innovative solutions and continuously developing them in partnership with our customers.”

Digital weather display improves safety and efficiency | New feature in latest version of Lido/eRouteManual 5.0

Digital weather display improves safety and efficiency | New feature in latest version of Lido/eRouteManual 5.0

Lufthansa Systems today announced the integration of the new feature with the name “Weather” in its Lido/eRouteManual navigation solution. Weather phenomena can now be downloaded and displayed on enroute navigation maps without needing to install additional software. Text-based weather information is also available for every airport. With the introduction of the new Version 5.0 of Lido/eRouteManual, this weather data is just a few clicks away.

“Relevant meteorological information is in high demand among airlines, including our customers. Hardly anything has more negative effects on flight operations than the weather. Together with our customer Lufthansa, we developed the Weather feature to display current weather data on our maps,” explained Dr. Bernd Jurisch, Head of Flight & Navigation Products & Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “The updated Version 5.0 of Lido/eRouteManual seamlessly integrates the new feature. The smart and reliable Weather feature enables pilots to access the necessary weather information more quickly and choose the best route based on the weather conditions.”

Lido/eRouteManual Weather from Lufthansa Systems includes weather information that the pilots receive digitally in text form during their briefing at the airport. The visualization of weather phenomena such as storm cells, cloud heights and turbulence optimally supports the preparations of the flight deck crew. This saves time, lowers the risk of delays and increases safety.

Airlines using the Lido/eRouteManual Weather feature receive live weather updates every five minutes. Displaying current weather data on the navigation maps improves the pilots’ situational awareness and helps them make tactical decisions during a flight. The ability to avoid turbulence also increases passenger comfort.

Lido/eRouteManual is the Windows-based digital version of the navigation maps and has already been deployed by more than 50 airlines worldwide. The application includes navigation maps for take-off and landing procedures as well as enroute charts that comprise all important route information like altitude data and airport features. These maps are generated directly from the Lido/FMS navigation database, which includes worldwide aeronautical information. Lido/eRouteManual supports all well-known Avionics interfaces as well as commercially available GPS receivers for displaying the current aircraft position on enroute and terminal maps. The app’s Lido/AMM module provides high-precision airport moving maps that facilitate navigation for pilots during taxi operations.

Icelandair has already successfully tested Lido/eRouteManual Weather in practice. “For flights in our transatlantic network and in charter operations worldwide, the ability to provide our pilots with live weather updates from Lido/eRouteManual equips them with a new tool to make better decisions in order to avoid bad weather. This saves fuel, reduces CO2 emissions, improves passenger comfort and reduces the risk of delays,” said Grétar Mar Óðinsson, EFB Administrator at Icelandair. “We are very pleased with Lido/eRouteManual from Lufthansa Systems overall. The new weather feature impressed us not least because it directly addresses the needs of Icelandair.”

The weather information in Lido/eRouteManual is based on data provided by the US engineering firm Basic Commerce and Industries (BCI). The text-based weather information provided at airports and covering significant meteorological events comes from Lufthansa Systems’ own database for its Lido/Flight 4D route planning solution.
