New design exhibition stand for the first time at AIX in Hamburg | Responsible marketing with sustainable materials and ecological advertising media

New design exhibition stand for the first time at AIX in Hamburg | Responsible marketing with sustainable materials and ecological advertising media

Lufthansa Systems employs IT and aviation experts who are passionate about their products and customers – real insiders. This is what the new image campaign of the airline IT specialist conveys: “We're into IT”. The new slogan is also an invitation to customers and partners to take a closer look. Wherever digitalization and aviation come together, Lufthansa Systems and its solutions are also involved.

This basic idea, which Lufthansa Systems published at the end of January at the same time as a new design, is also reflected in the new booth concept for trade shows. This stand will be used for the first time at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg. The key visual shows people who literally merge with the matter in the background. In an extraordinary way, digital, analogue and living components are combined at the stand of the airline IT specialist.

“Our concept is consciously very futuristic and modern. At first glance, it should convey the fact that we at Lufthansa Systems are flexible in all directions and can adapt to the requirements of the respective project. We are open to cooperation with partners and want to revolutionize the airline world together with them and our many customers,” says Ansgar Lübbehusen, Head of Marketing & Communications at Lufthansa Systems.

The award-winning BoardConnect platform will be presented with a new service for partners under the name BoardConnect Dock. (More on this in the press release of April 1.)

Likewise, a new range of advertising materials, which are always in high demand, was developed. Lufthansa Systems attached particular importance to sustainability in the newly selected articles. “The debate about plastic waste and sustainability does not stop at IT and marketing either. We are proud to be able to make a contribution to greater sustainability with our environmentally friendly gift articles,” adds Lübbehusen. Plastic ducks and articles that do not create any real added value are now a thing of the past. In contrast, Lufthansa Systems invites customers and partners to its stand for a cup of coffee in a portable and recyclable mug. Not only during AIX a useful utensil.

Lufthansa Systems is offering extensive new services for airlines and partners | BoardConnect supports various financing models for IFEC

Lufthansa Systems today announced that it is presenting an expanded BoardConnect portfolio at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg. The airline IT specialist is responding to changing demand in the market and the different needs of airlines and partners.

“BoardConnect is the perfect open platform for combining all of the features desired in the field of inflight entertainment & connectivity (IFEC) to further improve the passenger experience. We work with various partners to offer airlines exactly what they are looking for,” said Jan-Peter Gänse, Head of Passenger Experience Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “In order to meet customer requirements even more precisely, our portfolio will now distinguish between solutions for airlines and partners.”

BoardConnect Dock
With its new BoardConnect Dock solution, Lufthansa Systems is providing technology, content and financing partners with a BoardConnect framework for creating their own onboard program. Depending on the partner, this might include a connectivity portal, classic IFE content or a platform with booking options and targeted advertising to generate additional revenue. This approach is reflected in successful projects carried out with Epteca at AirEuropa and Mahata Aero Teknologi for Citilink, and Garuda Indonesia.

For its refinancing models, Lufthansa Systems is additionally working with providers such as WhileFly and repay.me. In terms of content providers, its partner network includes Touch, Lasker, IMM and PXCOM, and is supplemented on a technical level by IMD, optile, INADVIA, RIM and Lufthansa Technik.

BoardConnect
BoardConnect
is Lufthansa Systems’ complete solution for the digital passenger experience that continues to address airlines of all sizes with different business models. In addition to traditional IFE features such as moving maps, movies, music, games and destination information, customers can choose the content they want from a wide range of services available through Lufthansa Systems’ strong partner network. This content can also be provided simply and easily from the cloud if desired.

Visit Lufthansa Systems from April 2 to 4 at AIX at stand #4B11.

Almost 500 participants attend one of the largest international airline IT conferences | Around 90 airlines represented | Lufthansa Systems honors long-standing NetLine customers

Almost 500 participants attend one of the largest international airline IT conferences | Around 90 airlines represented | Lufthansa Systems honors long-standing NetLine customers

Strategic alliances and the comprehensive exchange of information across all borders are fundamentally important in the world of aviation. With the Aviation Campus, Lufthansa Systems aims to find the best solutions quickly and efficiently from a network of options – for any problem its customers might face. This is why the slogan of the Airline Forum that starts today in the Lufthansa Seeheim conference hotel is “Explore the Aviation Campus.” At this customer conference, Lufthansa Systems will present innovations and developments from its portfolio to almost 500 participants from around the world.

The airline IT specialist will focus on its NetLine products, which cover the entire process chain from network planning and flight scheduling to daily flight operations. Lufthansa Systems has many existing customers in this field who have long relied on NetLine solutions such as NetLine/Plan, NetLine/Sched, NetLine/Ops ++ and NetLine/Crew, including Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines and Air Canada.

“The low fluctuation and loyalty of our customers are a testament to their great satisfaction. We are delighted to see this kind of response, which also motivates us to keep optimizing our products. At events like the Airline Forum, our customers provide feedback that contributes to the continual development of our solutions. This is very much in the spirit of the Aviation Campus,” said Olivier Krüger, CEO of Lufthansa Systems.

The many innovations presented at the event demonstrate how forward-looking cooperation works within the NetLine family and the Aviation Campus. For example, experts will show how artificial intelligence can revolutionize turnaround management, improve processes in the Operations Control Center and reduce the risk of delays by taking delay forecasts into account. They will also discuss the ongoing migration of the solutions to the Lufthansa Systems Global Aviation Cloud.

The keynote on the topic of “Digital Disruption” will be given by Dr. Jens-Uwe Meyer, a leading German innovation and digitalization expert. Alan Talbot, CIO of Air Malta, will talk about the digital transformation from the customer’s perspective in his presentation on “Change – a proven necessity.” Other customers will also be given a platform for reporting on successful projects, including Air Canada, Aigle Azur and Qatar Airways. The next two and a half days will be devoted to some 80 lectures and workshops. Attendees can put together their own individual program from a comprehensive range of topics. The Aviation Campus will offer space to talk with product experts and other airlines by featuring live demos and opportunities to test new products on site.

“The Airline Forum is a chance for us to show our customers how the Aviation Campus enables us to turn ideas into reality. Through the interplay between our innovative solutions and their continual development in cooperation with our customers, we are bringing the future of aviation to life. We look forward to lively conversations and valuable insights,” said Stefan Auerbach, CEO of Lufthansa Systems.

Expanded functionality in Lido/AMM Airport Moving Map / External Bad Elf GPS receiver successfully tested with KLM on flight deck

Expanded functionality in Lido/AMM Airport Moving Map / External Bad Elf GPS receiver successfully tested with KLM on flight deck

Displaying one’s own aircraft position on airport maps helps pilots navigate between the gate and the runway. This function in the Lido/AMM Airport Moving Map from Lufthansa Systems can now be combined with the external Bluetooth GPS receiver from Bad Elf. This GPS is easy to install on the flight deck and considerably cheaper than using GPS information from conventional avionics systems. The small Bad Elf GPS devices accurately show the own-ship position on the airport map. This helps pilots, especially when navigating unfamiliar airports, and improves their situational awareness.

The new function was successfully tested with the customer KLM Royal Dutch Airlines during live operations between March and October 2018. “Since 2015 we have been using the digital Lido/mPilot maps across our entire fleet,” said Maarten Koudijs, Manager Digitizing & Navigation Support at KLM. “The Lido/AMM tests with the Bad Elf GPS device continually improved our setup. We also had test flights on different aircraft types, including B737, B777, B787 and A330. We are very pleased with the result of the field tests and are currently reviewing whether to introduce Lido/AMM with GPS-based own-ship position.”

Taken together, the navigation applications from Lufthansa Systems have thus far supported the following aircraft interface devices (AIDs) for integrating GPS information: the AID from Boeing ONS, the UTC Aerospace Systems Tablet Interface Module® (UTAS TIM) and GroundLink AID+ from Teledyne. Other cheaper GPS solutions, by contrast, are often not precise enough for use at airports. This new cooperation with Bad Elf led to the solution: a portable, external GPS device that is smaller than a conventional smartphone and can be simply certified for use on the flight deck. The Bad Elf GPS connects to the digital maps either via Bluetooth or cable, and no further installation is necessary. The new function has already been integrated into Lido/mPilot for iOS and Lido/eRouteManual for Windows. All that an airline needs to use it is the Bad Elf GPS Pro+ accessory.

“Displaying the own-ship position in Lido/AMM is not new in itself, but it has not often been requested by customers to date. We are therefore delighted that, thanks to our cooperation with Bad Elf, we can offer a more cost-efficient solution that is also fast and easy to integrate,” explained Dr. Bernd Jurisch, Head of Flight & Navigation Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “We are confident that more airlines will now use this feature, which will further improve safety while navigating at airports.”

Lido/mPilot is Lido´s mapping solution for the iPad. Lido/eRouteManual is the Windows-based app for navigation maps. Both applications include all important route information, including altitude data, airways and airport information. The systems can access data such as GPS information, speed and the direction of the airport in order to display the position and orientation of the aircraft on the integrated Airport Moving Map (Lido/AMM).

Bad Elf has been offering external GPS receivers for improved situational awareness in electronic flight bag applications to private, military, and commercial pilots since 2010. Further information about Bad Elf can be found online at https://bad-elf.com/airlines
