Lufthansa Systems expands data center in Singapore

Stronger worldwide network – Application operations for Singapore Airlines

Lufthansa Systems today announced the expansion of its data center capacity in Singapore to strengthen the company’s worldwide data center network and its highly developed infrastructure expertise. The new site provides Lufthansa Systems with a number of business benefits in the Asia-Pacific region. Above all, Lufthansa Systems will be able to offer co-location services from the new data center for its Lido/Flight flight planning system, its SkyConnect WAN solution and its deskBase workplace model, among others.

With this expansion, Lufthansa Systems is establishing a standard infrastructure and standard processes in a modern data center at a geographically secure location. The new site can be expanded easily to accommodate infrastructure requirements, while operations will be controlled by the Operations Center in Budapest. The move will also lead to significantly lower operating costs. Singapore Airlines is Lufthansa Systems’ main customer in Singapore. The airline has relied on Lufthansa Systems’ flight planning solution for many years. The hosting agreement for this solution was extended in July of this year.

“By expanding in Singapore, we are further strengthening our infrastructure expertise following the new site opening in London and the relocation in Dallas,” said Bardo Werum, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Services at Lufthansa Systems. “Lufthansa Systems has made a name for itself as a capable and reliable infrastructure provider. We aim to take advantage of regional opportunities and proximity to our customers to make our hosting services even more attractive. We also want to use the new capacity to acquire further customers in the region. Companies in the sectors to which we offer our services benefit from our high standards of quality, reliability and data security – standards with which we are very familiar from the airline industry,” Werum said. 

Lufthansa Systems’ global data center network meets the highest standards and includes sites in Kelsterbach, Dallas and London as well as Singapore. The IT service provider also handles the operation of its customers' systems and applications in its own data centers. Services offered range from the global provisioning of high-performance networks and application service provision (ASP) through to cloud computing solutions and IT outsourcing. Customers from the aviation, transport and logistics, industry, media and publishing, healthcare or tourism sectors can choose from an infrastructure portfolio tailored precisely to the respective needs of their sector.

Lufthansa Systems continually invests in the enhancement of its data centers, such as ongoing virtualization and the removal of legacy systems. In this way, Lufthansa Systems can offer improved services for customers while reducing energy consumption at the same time. Most recently, the company upgraded the air conditioning, UPS and air recirculation systems, thereby reducing the power usage effectiveness (PUE) value from over 2 to 1.6.     About Lufthansa Systems
