I am an editor of the text information part of the Lido RouteManual. Additionally to the charting information, the Lido RouteManual contains a text part with rules and regulations to be observed by flight crews. They comprise extracts from ICAO Standards and Practices, EASA- and FAA Regulations as well as publications of some 190 countries.
It’s been an honor for us at Lufthansa Systems in Zurich to host the yearly ARINC 424 NDB Meeting. We have been engaged in this working group for over a decade, improving and evolving the industry standard ARINC 424 together. The goal is to propose changes that will facilitate the pilots work and ensure a safe flight.
Pilots need to look up supplementary navigational information in the General Part during all flight phases several times a flight. This process can be time consuming, especially when the respective documents are displayed in 3rd party readers. Pilots have to deal with different formats and user interfaces while administrators have to maintain two applications.
What is it like to be an intern at Lido Navigation Zurich? It is definitely a challenge, considering I am just starting my career and have no aviation background. I feel like I landed in a new city, where English is the official language and airplanes are the center of the universe.
