The Payment Card Industry (PCI) implemented a global security standard for credit and EC cards, called Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). In the aviation industry in particular, many services are based on credit card details, including ticket purchases as well as non-financial transactions. All companies working with credit or debit card data are obliged to comply with the so called PCI standard.
The potential impact is huge. From check-in to revenue accounting, the airline industry is dependent on card data.
Complying with the standard is a complex and costly undertaking for companies since the PCI regulations include approximately 380 detailed requirements. Non-compliance can result in fines and even in withdrawal of the concession for credit card-based transactions. All these challenges have prompted us to develop an alternative to the traditional implementation approach.
