Flight information available anywhere

The Electronic Flight Folder (EFF) replaces the conventional pilot briefing folder with up-to-date, clearly organized electronic versions of flight documents and dynamic and interactive content

Lufthansa Systems’ Lido eFlightBag is an electronic platform that fully replaces the pilot’s flight bag which is completely packed with paper documents. These documents typically consist of the operational flight plan, weather data, NOTAMs and information on fuel and loading. Depending on the airline, there may also be data on the technical status of the aircraft or on the crew, cargo and passengers, or others. These documents provide pilots with all of the information they need for their current flight.

Electronic Flight Folder (EFF)
As a paperless briefing package, the Electronic Flight Folder (EFF) provides the crew with all flight-related documents and data.

One application of the continuously growing Lido eFlightBag (EFB) suite is the electronic Flight Folder (EFF). It enables pilots to to either download documents from a briefing station to a laptop or aircraft mounted EFB, or to access them via a special Web interface. Data transfer can either be via a data connection or physical transport using a portable memory device. They can then continue to work with the documents in the cockpit.

In today´s paper based world you can spread papers out in front of you, add information, highlight passages, show them to your colleagues, etc. The trick is to provide comparable capabilities in the electronic version along with all the advantages of digitization. In the EFF, for instance, there are color-coded text markers, digital sticky notes and a pen. These allow crews to work with the documents in much the same way as before. One advantage of the digital documents is that content can be continually updated. Furthermore, all crew members can work with the same documents, and their comments and changes are automatically synchronized on all end devices.

Another highlight of the EFF is that pilots no longer have to fill out the operational flight plan (OFP) by hand during a flight. Instead, they can fill out an electronic form. If an EFB device is permanently installed in the cockpit, OFPs can be semi-automatically filled with data from the aircraft avionics system. This greatly reduces the workload of pilots and ensures a higher quality of data.
