Royal Air Maroc links international stations with SkyConnect from Lufthansa Systems

March 18, 2008

IT specialist implements multi-provider data network in Africa and Middle East

SkyConnectThe Moroccan flag carrier Royal Air Maroc will be using the managed WAN solution, SkyConnect from Lufthansa Systems for data transfer between its sites in Africa and the Middle East and its Headquarter in Casablanca. Migrating to SkyConnect will enable Royal Air Maroc to modernize its existing data network in order to flexibly integrate its commercial applications and add new functionalities such as voice over IP telephony in the future.

“We welcome Royal Air Maroc among our growing customer base in Africa and the Middle East. This development underlines our strategy to leverage our products and services to support the healthy growth of the region’s airline industry,” said Matthias van Leeuwen, Senior Vice President Sales EMEA/South at Lufthansa Systems.

Combining high availability with exceptionally large data capacity, SkyConnect is a global multi-provider network which airlines and other international companies can use to transfer data quickly and securely. The multi-provider network is composed of the best available sub-networks of various regions and local providers. Since Lufthansa Systems does not need to fill own network capacity and is not bound to specific providers, it can offer its customers high flexibility and the best value for money. SkyConnect also provides rapid assistance in the event of a fault and "easy billing," which means that customers receive an aggregated invoice from Lufthansa Systems rather than individual statements from different providers.

Because the infrastructure in parts of Africa does not always meet modern telecommuni-cations requirements, Lufthansa Systems will solve this problem by using satellite and Internet connections to guarantee the high availability of the data network. The partnership with Lufthansa Systems enables Royal Air Maroc to implement its long-term expansion strategy even in the IT sector.
