Additional AIDA ships to be equipped with mobile infotainment solution
Lufthansa Systems today announced that the leading cruise ship specialist Meyer Werft GmbH, Papenburg, will equip two more AIDA cruise ships with infrastructure for a mobile infotainment system from the Kelsterbach-based IT provider. The new contract is yet another project in the context of the preferred partnership between the two companies.
As the largest, most cutting-edge solution of its kind, the mobile infotainment system from Lufthansa Systems will give AIDA a competitive advantage on a number of levels: Not only will the cruise ship company be able to offer its guests highly personalized services that go beyond top-class infotainment, it will also be able to reduce costs by optimizing its on-board business processes.
“Today’s cruise ship passengers expect access to a full range of information, communication and entertainment options. Our strategic partnership with Lufthansa Systems enables us to meet this expectation and position ourselves successfully in the highly competitive cruise ship market,” said Aloys Meemann, a member of the management board of Meyer Werft GmbH. “We are pleased to continue our successful partnership with Lufthansa Systems by equipping two new AIDA cruise ships.”
With the mobile infotainment system from Lufthansa Systems, cruise ship passengers can send and receive e-mails on board, surf the Internet, use audio and video on demand, and watch live TV. Guests can also access port information and book shore excursions and on-board activities through the ship’s intranet. Using the system is not limited to passenger cabins since it also serves as an interactive ship-wide passenger guidance system by making specific information such as advertisements and current announcements available throughout the ship.
“The fact that Meyer Werft and AIDA are satisfied with our mobile infotainment system shows that our experience in creating flexible, durable IT systems and supporting aviation business processes is also very valuable to customers in other industries,” said Dr. Hannes Pfister, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Services at Lufthansa Systems.
The latest version of the mobile infotainment system will be exhibited at stand 2129 at the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention from March 11-13 in Miami, Florida.
