Air Berlin Group integrates flight planning with Lufthansa Systems

July 10, 2008

Lido OC standardizes planning for long- and short-haul fleets

Air BerlinLufthansa Systems today announced that Air Berlin and its subsidiary airline LTU recently standardized their flight planning using the Lido Operations Center (Lido OC). This leading IT solution from Lufthansa Systems ensures efficient flight operations, saves fuel and can be used to plan flights for both long- and short-haul fleets. Air Berlin and LTU are already long-standing Lido OC customers.

Air Berlin, Germany’s second largest airline, took over LTU in August 2007. Since then, the jets of the Air Berlin Group fly to destinations throughout the world. Following the merger of the two airlines, flight operations processes of the Air Berlin Group now have been standardized by combining individually stored fleet data, standard routes, and other customer information, and by adjusting each airline’s fuel calculation specifications and consolidating them in a shared database. This also allows to standardize the layout of the operational flight plans for the crews of the two airlines.

“By using Lido OC for joint flight planning, the Air Berlin Group will benefit from synergies and reduce the cost of our flight operations. The advanced optimization processes offered by the Lufthansa Systems solution will help us reduce our fuel consumption,” said Ibrahim Gülcan, Corporate Director Operations Control at Air Berlin.

Lido OC uses a large number of parameters to calculate optimal flight routes. With its modern technology and user-friendly architecture, Lido OC covers all aspects of flight planning and follow-up processes.

“The sophisticated functionality of Lido OC was a decisive factor for successfully integrating the fight operations of the Air Berlin Group. The solution offers airlines various ways of optimizing their fuel and operating costs, and the associated reduction of emissions means that Lido OC also makes a significant contribution to environmental protection,” explained Marc Szepan, Senior Vice President Airline Operations Solutions at Lufthansa Systems.
