Lufthansa Systems presents its innovative infotainment solution for the cruise ship industry at Seatrade Europe

September 21, 2007

Lufthansa Systems, one of the world's leading full-service IT providers for the airline and aviation industry, will present its portfolio for the cruise ship industry at Seatrade Europe in Hamburg from September 25-27, 2007. The mobile infotainment solution from Lufthansa Systems is the first fully digital system of its type for cruise ships.

Cruise operators will reap double benefits from the innovative infotainment system: On the one hand, the system offers passengers a variety of entertainment options, including video on demand and iTV, as well as information and the ability to book on-board activities and shore excursions. At the same time, the system supports on-board business processes and eases the daily workload on the crew and service personnel. The mobile infotainment system also features open interfaces which allow it to exchange information with other ship systems.

Bundling numerous communication and entertainment channels in a single system creates a uniform look and feel and offers passengers an extraordinary entertainment and information experience. "Today, cruise ship passengers expect access to a complete range of information, communication and entertainment options on board. Using the latest technology, we've developed the world's largest, most advanced mobile infotainment system which is already being used on a number of ships. This system enables passengers to access information about on-board services and book activities online at any time," explained Dr. Hannes Pfister, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Services at Lufthansa Systems.

Since November 2006, Lufthansa Systems has worked with Meyer Werft GmbH in Papenburg in the field of infotainment for seagoing ships and river boats. Meyer Werft is a leading specialist in the construction of cruise ships. "Lufthansa Systems is a strategic partner for us to offer our customers innovative on-board IT solutions which correspond to the high technological standard of our ships," said Ralf Sempf, Chief Buyer at Meyer Werft GmbH, explaining the cooperation between the two companies.

The partners will be represented at each other's stands at Seatrade Europe in Hamburg. This means trade fair visitors can learn about the innovative mobile infotainment system both from Lufthansa Systems at booth 235 and from Meyer Werft at booth 118.
