World’s first commercial A380 flights to be calculated with Lido OC from Lufthansa Systems

October 23, 2007

Singapore Airlines will be using the flight planning and dispatch solution Lido Operations Center (Lido OC) for its first scheduled Airbus A380 flights between Singapore and Sydney this week. The airline, a long-standing customer of Lufthansa Systems’ advanced flight planning solution, will determine the optimal flight path using Lido OC before each flight of its new flagship, considering all influencing factors such as weather, flight time, fuel efficiency, and costs.

Lido OC calculates flight paths based on a standardized, regularly updated database containing all country- and airport-specific regulations, short- and long-term aeronautical restrictions, and dynamic data such as weather information. Lido OC therefore has continuous access to a wide range of current data for automatically calculating flight plans. Optimising flight paths is an important aviation industry goal to help reduce CO2 emissions by lowering fuel burn. International Air Transport Association studies have revealed that optimising flight paths, and other improvements to air traffic management, could reduce aviation-related emissions by as much as 12%.

"Lufthansa Systems is proud to be part of this moment, because it confirms the sophisticated functionality and flexibility of our solution,” said Marc Szepan, Senior Vice President Airline Operations Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “As the A380 takes efficient and environmentally responsible aviation to a new level, Lido OC plays a key part in enhancing safety and efficiency in flight operations worldwide.”

Lufthansa Systems’ IT solutions for flight operations are designed with the future needs of airlines, including new aircraft types, in mind. They feature a variety of innovations and meet the requirements of a paperless cockpit. The Lido product portfolio incorporates solutions trusted by major carriers around the world, among them Lido OC, Lido Briefing, Lido FMS, Lido electronic Aircraft Performance Monitoring (Lido eAPM), Lido eFlightBag, and Lido eRouteManual.
