Web Check-in solution from Lufthansa Systems now with APIS functionality

November 26, 2007

Innovative enhancement for more passenger comfort / Austrian Airlines is first customer

Lufthansa Systems today announced that its Web Check-in solution now features APIS functionality. Thanks to its innovative technology, the extended solution now meets the requirements of the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS) so that passengers can check in online for flights to the USA, Canada and other countries with similar entry requirements. Austrian Airlines is the first customer to deploy this product enhancement.

Since November 2001, airlines have been required to forward their passengers’ biographical data to the relevant US authorities before they arrive in the USA. This procedure has since been adopted by other countries. APIS is the transmission method used to collect and transmit these biographical data.

Lufthansa Systems has developed an advanced functionality for its Web Check-in solution that enables it to collect the mandatory APIS information quickly and easily over the Internet. The solution ensures efficient, convenient travel by preventing long lines at the check-in desk, thus making it attractive to airlines with a focus on private or business travelers.

Austrian Airlines has relied on the Web Check-in solution from Lufthansa Systems since early 2007. The airline serves a total of 130 destinations worldwide, including New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. in the United States and Toronto in Canada.
