Pilots will also use navigation charts from the IT service provider
When the Airbus A380 takes off in Frankfurt on March 19 for Lufthansa's route-proving flights, the cockpit crew will be using navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems to guide the plane from take-off to landing. In addition, to supplement the flight paths established by Airbus, the Lido Operations Center (Lido OC) from Lufthansa Systems has calculated routes optimized for flying time, costs and fuel consumption.

"We offer flight planning and navigation solutions which have been designed for new aircraft models and the future needs of airlines, and which also feature a variety of innovations and meet the requirements of a paperless cockpit."
The Airline Operations Solutions portfolio from Lufthansa Systems is based on a standardized, regularly updated database containing all country- and airport-specific regulations, short- and long-term aeronautical restrictions, and dynamic data such as weather information. Lido OC therefore has continual access to a wide range of current data for automatically calculating flight plans.
"We're proud that our Lido OC route planning solution is already capable of calculating optimized flight plans for the A380. This confirms the sophisticated functionality and flexibility of our solution. Most importantly, Lido OC and our navigation charts are making an important contribution to greater safety and improved efficiency in flight operations,” Szepan continued.
The navigation charts are automatically generated from the database and can be supplied in both paper and electronic form. They comprise maps of airport taxiways, approach and take-off charts, and seamless worldwide route charts. The intuitive layout of the charts enables pilots to find the relevant information on take-off and landing procedures at a glance.
