Lufthansa Systems provides VoIP systems for major US cruise line Celebrity Cruises

March 13 , 2007

Innovative telephone system for three new cruise ships built by Meyer Werft

Lufthansa Systems will engineer, install and commission an automated IP-based telephone system on board of three new ships for Celebrity Cruises built by Meyer Werft. Passengers on board the cruise liners will be able to enjoy all hospitality functions that are common standard and all benefits that come along with IP telephony. The state-of-the-art technology is independent from conventional telephone infrastructure and can be delivered via any IP port. The future-proof system allows distributing a broad spectrum of flexible services and hospitality functions, which help to ensure an unforgettable onboard experience.

The first ship will be launched in August 2008 and will be supplied with a total of almost 3.000 telephone sets in staterooms, offices and public areas. “Lufthansa Systems is known for its expertise in integrating VoIP systems that are fail-safe and have a high degree of inherent system stability. This was a crucial factor for our customer, Celebrity Cruises,” says Uwe Wulff, project manager at Meyer Werft.

“The cruise industry is a very promising sector in business for Lufthansa Systems,” adds Dr. Hannes Pfister, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Services at Lufthansa Systems. “We are pleased to work on another successful project for a well known shipping company together with our partner Meyer Werft.”

From March 13th to 15th Lufthansa Systems is presenting its Mobile Infotainment Solution for the cruise industry and other special services at the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention in Miami, Florida. If you are interested in hearing more about our innovative products, please come see us at our booth number 2411.
