Lufthansa Systems presents new features of its Mobile Infotainment Solution at Seatrade Miami

February 27, 2007

From March 13 to 15, Lufthansa Systems will join the cruise industry at Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention in Miami, Florida. The IT provider presents an advanced version of its Mobile Infotainment System. Since it was launched just a year ago, the system has proven its ability to take information, communication and entertainment on board cruise ships to the next level. It gives the cruise ship operator a competitive edge, because it improves the travel experience, allows for a more personalised service and increases the revenue potential.

Lufthansa Systems has developed a mobile infotainment solution that is customized to the requirements of fleet and hotel managers on board cruise vessels as well as the needs of passengers. It supports the business processes on-board and helps the ship’s management and marketing personnel to gain a more perceptive insight in terms of profiling passengers to determine their leisure and customer preferences. Special offers can be targeted to individual travel parties. The cruise operator gets the unique possibility to directly communicate with travellers on individual basis.

The system gives the vacationers an unprecedented choice. It offers e-mail-account, Internet access, audio and video on-demand and Live TV as well as harbor information, the booking of shore excursions or onboard activities and online shopping possibilities through the ship’s intranet. “Lufthansa Systems is breaking into a very promising and interesting market. The cruise industry will profit from our vast experience we have in mobile environments,” says
Dr. Hannes Pfister, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Services at Lufthansa Systems.

The highly reliable system is designed to be cost efficient to operate, user-friendly and easy to maintain. The technology is IP-based, allowing universal access to network content throughout a ship via both cable and wireless LAN. All kinds of terminals can be used, such as fixed in-cabin systems or mobile devices. The open IT architecture allows easy integration of any future applications or operating systems.

The Mobile Infotainment Solution already cruises the seven seas and proved its reliability on board the German vessel EUROPA, the flag-ship of Hapag-Lloyd. In spring 2007 the AIDAdiva, a new cruise ship of AIDA Cruises, will be launched with the new system on board. Lufthansa Systems will equip a total of four AIDA cruise ships with this state-of-the-art infotainment system. The system can be retrofitted in existing ships while in full operation as well as built into new vessels in the dock.
