Leading US low fare carrier benefits from cost savings potential with Lido OC
Lufthansa Systems and Frontier Airlines, one of the leading low-fare carriers in the US, today announced that they have signed an eight-year contract to implement Lufthansa Systems’ next-generation flight planning optimization program, Lido Operations Center (OC). Based on a variety of factors, Lido OC calculates the optimal route for every flight to help airlines minimize their fuel and operating costs. Frontier Airlines will also deploy Lido Briefing, a Web-based solution for optimizing briefing processes in the cockpit.
With its fleet of 60 Airbus A319 and A318 aircraft, Frontier Airlines serves 63 destinations in the US, Central America and Canada. With a complex network of over 350 daily departures and arrivals from its hub in Denver, sophisticated flight planning is crucial to Frontier’s ability to maintain its reputation for industry leading customer service and on time performance.
“Sophisticated flight planning is essential not only to maintaining the operational excellence that our customers rely on, but it is also affords a critical opportunity to save on fuel costs by helping us choose the most fuel efficient and direct routing for our flights,” explained Chris Collins, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Frontier Airlines. “After extensive research into available products and systems, we chose Lufthansa Systems because they consistently demonstrated that Lido OC and Lido Briefing would enable us to optimize our flight operations and lower our costs; tangible benefits that will be realized by Frontier as well as our customers.”
Safe, reliable flight operations are at the core of any airline's operations. Lido OC from Lufthansa Systems fully meets this requirement. The solution combines safety and flexibility with the ability to lower costs. With its modern technology and user-friendly architecture, Lido OC covers all aspects of flight planning and the associated follow-up processes. Drawing on its own database, Lido OC automatically calculates the ideal route between two airports and creates reliable and easy-to-understand briefing documents for each flight. Crews can access the briefing documents provided by the Lido Briefing module over the Internet using a PC or laptop and a Web browser.
"We are proud that Frontier Airlines has chosen to leverage Lufthansa Systems’ extensive flight planning expertise and to optimize its operations with the implementation of Lido OC and Lido Briefing,” said Marc Szepan, Senior Vice President Airline Operations Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. "Airlines around the world have been using Lido OC for years. Our solution is tailored to comply with regional characteristics and national regulations, making it ideally suited to Frontier Airlines’ goals of operational excellence and cost-savings through route planning."
