From October 18 to 20, Lufthansa Systems will join the cruise industry at Seatrade Med in Naples, Italy. The IT provider has chosen this occasion to highlight its sophisticated Mobile Infotainment Solution, which is the first fully digital system of its kind in the cruise industry.
One of the leading full-service IT providers for the airline and travel industries worldwide, Lufthansa Systems developed its Mobile Infotainment Solution in cooperation with travelnet cruise. The solution manages to deliver where its counts: it provides an outstanding entertainment experience for the passengers onboard cruise vessels and fully supports a cruise line’s infotainment business processes.
“Mobile communication is increasingly demanded by passengers traveling onboard cruise ships” said Dr. Gunter Küchler, Member of the Executive Board at Lufthansa Systems AG. “With the cruise industry, Lufthansa Systems brings its expertise in developing solutions for airlines to a market that has a lot of similar demands: high availability, security and flexibility. Our Mobile Infotainment Solution offers passengers the possibility to stay connected during their time on board. At the same time it provides interesting cost advantages over previous solutions for cruise liners.”
Lufthansa Systems’ solution is more than just an ordinary entertainment system. Designed to meet the high expectations of passengers used to high standards at home, it is the most advanced iTV system available, combining services for passengers and the support of onboard business processes. Passengers conveniently access all services for an extraordinary stay aboard, including such services as booking shore excursions and restaurants, surfing the internet, enjoying video and audio services, and accessing personalized on-board email and other onboard media directly from their cabin. The technology is IP-based, allowing universal access to network content throughout a ship via both cable and wireless LAN. All kinds of terminals can be used, such as for example fixed in-cabin systems or mobile devices.
A new cabin automation feature has been seamlessly integrated into the network and enables automated control of energy consuming devices such as lightning and air conditioning. Interfaces to Lufthansa Systems Mobile Infotainment Systems and other 3rd party systems such as ship property management solutions are provided as well. Installation and maintenance costs are kept low because numerous communications and entertainment channels are united on a single system. This not only reduces costs and boosts revenues but also delivers an enhanced customer experience to the passenger on board.
Furthermore, this solution for onboard mobile communication may also be adapted for trains, buses and aircraft. It meets the highest requirements in terms of functionality, utility and entertainment value everywhere. If you are interested in hearing more about this innovative product, do come and see us at our booth 247 at the Seatrade Med in Naples.
