BOGESTRA optimizes sales operations with solution from Lufthansa Systems

May 10, 2006

Mobile terminal devices facilitate customer service, sales processes and billing

BOGESTRA (Bochum-Gelsenkirchener Straßenbahnen AG), the public transport provider in the Bochum and Gelsenkirchen region of Germany, has opted for a complete customer management and ticket processing solution from Lufthansa Systems that will enable the company to increase the speed and efficiency of its sales and billing processes by deploying a new terminal device.

For several years, BOGESTRA has already been successfully using PATRIS®, a software solution from Lufthansa Systems for public transport. The mobile terminal devices now provide numerous sales and billing functionalities to BOGESTRA's field staff, enabling them to offer optimum advice to customer, sell tickets and access up-to-date schedule information. Field staff can also check tickets including eTickets and Internet tickets via GMS query. Furthermore, passenger comments and complaints can be recorded immediately as the BOGESTRA field staff can save the collected data in their mobile devices. Information is encrypted to prevent any misuse before it is processed and evaluated by PATRIS®, the central sales software application.

Field staff can contact their operations center via telephone, SMS or e-mail by using the terminal device. At the same time, the operations center is always aware of an employee's current position through GSM tracking. This opens up a host of new potential applications for BOGESTRA's security management.

BOGESTRA transports some 137 million passengers each year and operates 249 regular buses and about 115 streetcars in the Bochum-Gelsenkirchen region.
