Cargo Center Billund saves time and money with Lufthansa Systems’ ELWIS solution
A customer of Lufthansa Systems’ air cargo handling solution ELWIS since 1997, Cargo Center Billund has opted to add the solution’s modern PDA technology with scanning functions. By scanning airway bill numbers as well as ULD or internal IDs, ELWIS helps the Danish cargo handler speed up the cargo handling process. This significantly reduces the number of misdirected cargo and delays from searching for misdirected shipments which was previously incurred by manually entering the information.
The ELWIS PDA touch screen application is workflow oriented and easy to use. No tiny key functions have to be pressed anymore which increases the acceptance of the users. The language can be set for each user independently. After first week in production 100.000 scanning requests have been performed by the ELWIS system.
“ELWIS' comprehensive functionalities complete with handling, scanning and factoring modules are a perfect match for our drive to incorporate new technologies and innovative approaches in the field of cargo handling,“ says Jan Ditlevsen, Cargo Manager Cargo Center Billund.
ELWIS is part of Lufthansa Systems’ AdvancedCargo Suite developed to support a cargo airlines needs from booking, tracking, ground handling to accounting. It operates in twenty-six Asian, European & South American airports in twelve countries and covers the entire workflow from physical handling to documentation, customs clearance and invoicing of the handling services. The modular system, which is either web or client-server based, thus increases throughput, reduces costs and creates the necessary conditions for optimum customer service.
In 2005, ELWIS was expanded to integrate RFID and DGR technologies and an e-invoicing feature.
