Network management plays an important role within the infrastructure services provided by Lufthansa Systems. The company designs, implements and operates a multitude of high performance global networks for its customers. For Lufthansa Passage, the IT specialist implemented the standardization and modernization of its entire global IT infrastructure. Over 9,500 workplaces now enjoy a new, standardized IT environment running the latest hardware and software components.

Modern telecommunications

Innovative telecommunications networks such as wireless LAN and network-based telephony (Voice over IP) play a key role in Lufthansa Systems' services. The network and communication infrastructures of external customers have benefited directly from the knowledge of modern IP voice services that Lufthansa Systems has built up over the years. The company also supplies customer-focused solutions for speech-data integration. During the course of a new project, 20,000 Lufthansa employees will receive new telephones that can be controlled directly from a PC. Speech and data will thus be combined within a single infrastructure.

Lufthansa Systems also offers digital mobile radio solutions to companies requiring no-compromise customized wireless solutions. Together with Fraport AG, the company implemented Germany's largest wireless digital airport network at Frankfurt Airport in December 2003. The digital trunked radio network offers substantially better speech quality and a greater range than analog systems.

Powerful and secure: the Kelsterbach data center Via Application Service Providing (ASP), Lufthansa Systems provides customers with centralized software, computing capacity, and helpdesk services, which are billed by usage. Operational management of the hardware and software is carried out at the data center in Kelsterbach, to which customers have access via a secure, high-availability data link. To further improve its IT services, the company opened a new Enterprise Operation Center (EOC) in its data center in April last year. The EOC optimizes the communication mechanisms involved in receiving, diagnosing and rectifying disturbances, thereby improving response and processing times.
