DER extends contract for 36 months after new call for tenders
Lufthansa Systems today announced that its contract to manage the IT workstations and
provide user support for Deutsche Reisebüro (DER) has been renewed for another three
years. This decision is based on a call for tenders among leading IT service providers,
which Lufthansa Systems was able to win. The new contract runs 36 months.
"Lufthansa Systems impressed us with its innovative overall concept," says Siegfried
Buchta, head of the Organization/Sales department. "The cost-efficient operating model
is tailored to our specific needs, and by migrating to a uniform system platform, we will
be able to lower our ongoing operating costs for the long term."
The new outsourcing contract covers the maintenance of complete IT workstations, user
support via a help desk center, and selective support with the operation and
administration of central systems. In addition to handling these outsourcing tasks,
Lufthansa Systems will manage the migration of around 800 of 1,200 IT workstations to
the new Microsoft Windows XP operating system. The migration to a standard platform
and the centralized administration of the PCs are part of the innovative operating
concept which enabled Lufthansa Systems to prevail over its competitors. This concept
will provide DER with considerable cost advantages with regard to the operation and
administration of its IT systems.
The DER group is part of REWE Touristik and includes the brands Dertour, Meier's
Weltreisen and ADAC Reisen. The group's sales are handled by over 250 DER travel
agencies and other partners throughout Germany. Since 1999, Lufthansa Systems has
operated parts of the IT infrastructure for DER in close cooperation with the group's
internal IT department.
