Lufthansa Systems enhances its cargo handling system ELWIS with RFID technology

RFID technology becomes increasingly important in the management of freight, from real-time location and tracking of cargo to asset management and security enforcements. Lufthansa Systems has been enhancing its ELWIS (Electronic Logistics & Warehouse Information System) cargo handling system and provides integrated RFID technology for cargo handling companies and cargo airlines. The Free Trade Zone at the new Bangkok International Airport will be the launching ELWIS customer operating the Free Trade Zone warehouse with the innovative RFID feature.

Europe's leading standard IT-Solution for air cargo handling, ELWIS is running cargo warehouses and cargo handling operations in 10 countries in Asia, Europe and South America, handling more than 2.8m tons freight per year. It enables cargo handlers to map the system step-by-step to their current working procedures and therefore has the capacity to expand with the ever-increasing needs of the client. Among the current ELWIS customers to benefit from the on-going new developments are Thai Airport Ground Services (TAGS) at new Bangkok International Airport, Germany's Cologne/Bonn Airport and Leipzig/Halle airport as well as the Cargo Handling Centre at Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster Sheffield (UK).
