African airline Kenya Airways today announced that their complete
fleet will migrate for navigation to electronically generated Lido
Route Manual. Charts no longer have to be drawn manually;
instead, Lido Route Manual generates them from a database that contains
geographic and aeronautical information from all over the world,
resulting in improved quality and increased security.
Lido Route Manual is part of a new generation of navigation support
product. It provides comprehensive route planning data including
detailed airport charts to pilots and flight planners.
Comprising all flight-relevant navigation data, the route manual
has been designed to meet the specific usability needs for optimum
flight preparation and execution. The scalability of Lido Route
Manual charts is a great advantage for pilots as topographical information
such as mountain heights, the courses of rivers etc. are presented
to scale. Pilots can precisely calculate all activities such as
take-off and landing procedures with regard to minimum sector altitudes
and the time needed to complete a given distance.
The five-year deal with Lufthansa Systems also provides for Kenya
Airways to use the Flight Information Viewer (FIV) Internet solution.
FIV enables dispatcher and pilots to access the Internet from any
PC or laptop during flight preparations on the ground and to download
and print e.g. the most up-to-date charts. Using electronic media
such as the Flight Information Viewer (FIV) results in optimized
paper and logistics expenses and thus to a significant reduction
of costs.
