Lufthansa Systems today announced that the Cargo Handling Centre
(CHC) at the new Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster / Sheffield (DSA)
will be the first British company to install its ELWIS IT solution.
ELWIS accelerates cargo handling and ensures seamless communication
between all parties involved in the transportation of cargo, for
instance by providing a link to British customs (UK HM Customs).
ELWIS maps the entire cargo handling process chain from physical
handling at the warehouse to invoicing handling services, enabling
customers to achieve both higher throughput and significantly lower
costs. The future-oriented, enhanced functionality of ELWIS convinced
CHC to become the first cargo handler in the UK to opt for a non-British
freight handling IT system. Lufthansa Systems has demonstrated its
competence and expertise in this field through successful ELWIS
installations at several European and South American cargo handling
companies. By investing in an innovative cargo handling technology,
CHC underscores its ambitions to become a successful and growing
player in the international cargo industry.
We are already providing an urgently needed full handling
service at DSA, which we wish to enhance by installing new revolutionary
equipment to improve standards for the airline clientele,
explains Jean Parsons, Business Development Manager of CHC, and
continues: We were very impressed with the ELWIS system which
provides a much better and more modern package for todays
market.
CHC started operation at the Airport in Doncaster in January 2004
and handles cargo for many destinations throughout the world, including
Singapore, Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Bombay, and Chicago.
Investing in ELWIS provides us with a future-orientated handling
system, scanning and handheld technology, seamless communication
with our customers and a powerful invoicing tool, ensuring flexible
customer service and reflecting our service level agreements with
our airline clients, states Andrew Hudson, General Manager
at CHC. Airlines request a better service than they get from
other handling companies in terms of communication and flexibility
and they can already see that CHC is doing it in a much different
way that others.
The ELWIS system is running successfully at a number of airports
including Stockholm Skavsta (Sweden), Billund (Denmark), Berlin,
Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Cologne, Frankfurt-Hahn (Germany),
Luxemburg, Warsaw (Poland), and Bucharest (Romania) as well as EMSA
GlobeGround Ecuador.
