Lufthansa Systems today announced that it has successfully completed
the modernization of 9,500 IT workplaces of Lufthansa Passage Airlines
at 350 sites worldwide. The final sites were equipped with a new
IT infrastructure by end of June. From now on, Lufthansa Passage
will be using the standardized, Windows XP-based "Campus eXPerience"
(CeXP) application platform throughout the company. This project
has enabled Lufthansa Passage to simplify its application environment
and thus to reduce its maintenance and administration costs.
As general contractor, Lufthansa Systems assumes responsibility
and the entrepreneurial risk for the project. The IT providers
tasks also included the certification of individual applications.
This ensured that the approximately 200 applications used at Lufthansa
Passage work seamlessly with the new Windows XP-based systems. Lufthansa
Systems will continue to support Lufthansa Passage in building,
operating and continually optimizing its IT landscape.
The new IT infrastructure enables the full remote administration
of PC workplaces and servers so that workplaces all over the world
can be upgraded with new software components from a central location.
An asset management system automatically provides administrators
with up-to-date information about the installed hardware and software
components. Such a comprehensive software support and administrative
automation translates into cost savings.
Christoph Ganswindt, Director Information Management at Lufthansa
Passage, comments: "The new platform has enabled us to reduce
system operation and administration costs sustainably. The high
degree of standardization of our workplaces also results in cost
savings on the purchasing side. Overall, we will be able to achieve
savings of up to 30 percent per workplace with the new IT infrastructure.
The many years of roll-out project experience of Lufthansa Systems
has been a key factor in the timely implementation of the project.
