As an innovation on the aviation market, Routing Selector, the
cargo booking system from Lufthansa Systems, supports the management
of all airline booking requests and bookings in an airlines
cargo business. After eight months of intensive development work,
Routing Selector has now been successfully deployed as a tool for
optimizing the cargo business of carriers such as Singapore Airlines.
As developed by Lufthansa Systems, the cargo booking system Routing
Selector is the first solution that provides not only an overview
of flight schedules with basic data such as departures and arrivals,
but also takes into account important information about potential
embargoes and flight restrictions. Handling and transit times, which
were previously calculated on a flat-rate basis, can now be computed
accurately with Routing Selector.
Based on external and internal data, the system automatically determines
the most suitable route, independent of the complexity of the individual
inquiries. The system also takes into account specific local information
such as handling times and off-duty handling days at the stations.
This ensures that Singapore Airlines is able to transport shipments
quickly and reliably within Singapore Airlines' freight network
as well as beyond within their partners' network. Furthermore, the
individual freight paths can be monitored at all times, calling
for reroutings if necessary.
Lufthansa Systems has adapted its cargo booking system to the individual
requirements of the Asian airline's business processes and legacy
systems and has expanded Routing Selector accordingly. Bernd Appel,
Vice President Strategic Business Segment Cargo & Logistics
at Lufthansa Systems, explains: "In developing new technologies,
we are able to take advantage of the know how that we have gained
through our longstanding and successful cooperation with Lufthansa
Cargo. As a result of the cooperation with Singapore Airlines we
will be able to enlarge this know how on the Asian market.
