New IT infrastructure for 9,500 workplaces; Lufthansa Systems
serves as general contractor
Lufthansa has launched a worldwide modernization campaign for its
Passage Airline to ensure improved workplace efficiency, ergonomics
and safety. A new IT infrastructure featuring state-of-the-art hard
and software is currently being installed at more than 9,500 workplaces
at approximately 350 sites around the globe to achieve a sustainable
improvement in business process efficiency. The standardization
of the workplace environment will also simplify maintenance and
administration, resulting in lower system operating costs.
The Campus eXPerience (CeXP) standard platform is based on the
new Microsoft Windows XP operating system. Roll-out will involve
the installation of 4,000 new printers and the migration of 9,400
e-mail addresses and 3,000 Internet accounts. In the current project
phase, more than 300 workplaces are being upgraded each week.
"The new model will benefit employees and the company as we
provide Lufthansa staff all over the world with modern and ergonomic
workplaces. State-of-the-art equipment such as the Windows XP operating
system ensure easy maintenance, resulting in a significant reduction
of total costs for Lufthansa," says Christoph Ganswindt, Director
Information Management Lufthansa Passage Airline, explaining the
concept underlying the project.
Lufthansa Systems is responsible for implementing, operating and
for continually advancing and improving the IT infrastructure. As
general contractor, Lufthansa Systems assumes responsibility and
the entrepreneurial risk for the IT services provided in connection
with Campus eXPerience.
"Leveraging our experience from previous roll-out projects,
we were able to improve a number of services for this new project
including a reduction of delivery times. Following initial pilot
locations, we successfully modernized numerous German sites in 2003.
Our next goal is to upgrade the remaining sites in Germany, Europe,
Asia and the United States by the summer of 2004," says Prof.
Dr. Bernd Voigt, Vice President business segment Infrastructure
Services at Lufthansa Systems.
