Airlines will soon be able to benefit from electronically generated
route maps. Airbus and Lufthansa Systems have signed a Memorandum
of Understanding on April 28th, 2004 that intends to install electronic
route manuals with dynamically generated charts on all Airbus models.
This agreement underscores Lufthansa Systems' role as a global innovator
in the field of electronic charts.
The electronic Route Manual (eRMÒ) signifies a new generation
of navigation support solutions. "We are proud to be a global
pioneer with the electronic route manual and to be the first in
the position to offer an integrated flight support services portfolio.
The migration to electronic charts offers great cost saving potential
for airlines," says Dr. Peter Franke, Chief Executive Officer
of Lufthansa Systems Group GmbH.
The eRMÒ solution electronically generates the charts directly
from an aeronautical database which contains geographical and aeronautical
information from all over the world. Route charts are created automatically
from defined route data, displaying route and current position in
the relevant chart section.
eRMÒ will be rolled out throughout the Airbus fleet gradually,
with initial installations being planned early 2005. It will also
be integrated in the Onboard Information System (OIS) of the Airbus
A380 model and tested as early as 2005.
"We were impressed by the innovative technology of eRMÒ
and its comprehensive functionalities and carefully designed details.
In Lufthansa Systems, we have found a leading partner for our integrated
on-board solution, establishing paperless cockpits throughout our
aircraft fleet," explains Patrick Gavin, Airbus Executive Vice
President Customer Services.
