High tech for Lufthansa Training & Conference Center Seeheim
The beginning of 2009 saw the launch of the new Lufthansa Training & Conference Center Seeheim near Darmstadt. After a planning and construction period lasting roughly two and a half years, the conference hotel, which is rich in Lufthansa tradition, opened in a new, refreshing atmosphere.
Besides ultra-modern training facilities, the Conference Center offers hotel rooms ranging from Economy to Executive. And after a strenuous training session the conference guests can enjoy contemporary, healthy catering and numerous activities which provide a good balance to the training.
When everything runs as smoothly as clockwork and the conference guests feel perfectly taken care of, it is worth taking a look behind the scenes. The IT specialists from Lufthansa Systems began their work at the site more than eight months ago. Their job was to set up a future-proof IT infrastructure for the entire building. At the time of the opening, 80 seminar rooms in the conference hotel will have Internet access and IP telephony – including eleven rooms each with 15 computer workstations for internal Lufthansa training. The technological lifeline for these facilities is a wide area network (WAN). This network is linked to the Lufthansa Systems data center in Kelsterbach and extends over a large geographical area.
In each hotel room the conference guest has access to the Internet, digital IP-TV, information about training rooms and menus, as well as an automatic wake-up service. In addition, an extensive local area network (LAN) with approx. 3,300 connections ensures 24/7 access to the Internet in all 483 hotel rooms.
Lufthansa employees staying here can access the company's internal network via their laptop or one of the 62 wireless LAN access points provided. In addition, Intranet Kiosk PCs are available to all internal conference guests.
The technological equipment is made possible by the Infotainment solution from Lufthansa Systems which is already employed on cruise ships from AIDA Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
Thanks to numerous antennas from several cell phone service operators distributed throughout the building, optimal cell phone reception is also ensured. This means that now, in terms of information technology, nothing stands in the way of a perfect connection to the outside world during conferences.
