Check-in solutions certified by U. S. Bureau
of Customs and Border Protection

The APIS Quick Query functionality (AQQ) for check-in solutions developed by Lufthansa Systems has been certified by the U. S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (APIS - Advance Passenger Information System). This constitutes official confirmation that Lufthansa Systems’ AQQ complies with the U. S. authorities’ requirements for the online transmission of passenger data. It is one of the first solutions anywhere in the world to do so.

APIS Quick Query enables airlines to convey data on incoming passengers interactively to the U. S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection and to receive an immediate response regarding each passenger’s permit to enter the USA. The online data transmission is fast and flexible and saves the airlines the fines and other costs that were previously incurred, for instance when passengers had to be sent back.

Lufthansa Systems’ further development of AQQ permits the rapid submission of online data to APIS. These check-in solutions are an integrated part of Lufthansa Systems’ GroundSolutions platform, which offers functionality for all check-in channels plus boarding from a single source. Lufthansa Systems’ Ground Solutions modules are already in use by Austrian Airlines, bmi, LOT, Lufthansa and TACA, to name just a few.

In a nutshell
Advance Passenger Information System (APIS)
Since October 4, 2005, airlines are required to send passengers’ personal information to the U. S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection when they enter or leave the USA.
For each passenger, APIS requests the first and last names, gender, date of birth, nationality, place of residence, passport number, biometric data and the first address of their stay in the USA. The transfer of this data is a requirement for passengers to the USA, Canada, Japan, Korea and other countries with comparable entry regulations.
