Automating flight plan calcualations - just a few clicks away from your flight plan

With Lido/Flight, the flight planning solution from Lufthansa Systems, airlines can minimize their fuel consumption and overflight costs thanks to optimized flight routes, and reduce the resulting operating costs.

In order to provide support for dispatchers and thereby speed up the processes in flight route planning, Lido/Flight provides additional automation modules. One of these is the AOS (Airline Operations Support) module.

This module enables airlines to fully or partially automate their planning processes. While observing the valid regulations, a selection can be made, for example, as to whether the calculation of flight plans, their optimization and the delivery of the briefing packages to the pilots is completely or partially automated. Partial automation is of great importance in particular to the American market because there the dispatcher and the pilot bear joint responsibility for the flight route up to and including the landing, and full automation is not permitted.

Partial automation requires just three clicks from the dispatcher: With the first click the dispatcher selects a flight prepared by the tool from the flight list. With the second click he opens the overview of the calculation results, checks the optimization, routing, alternative airports, etc. and with the third click he initiates the transmission of the operational flight plan to the authorities and the sending of the prepared briefing package to the pilots.

As the tool can access the complete functionalities of Lido/Flight for the calculation, the calculation of ETOPS flights (Extended-Range Twin-Engine Operational Performance Standards), tankering calculations (taking on fuel for subsequent flights to save fuel costs or refueling time at the destination airport) and dynamic calculations of flight routes with TFR (Traffic Flow Restrictions) are possible.

The majority of Lido/Flight clients use the AOS module for optimization on short and medium-haul flights, and some also use it for the calculation of long-haul flights. By doing so, the dispatchers gain valuable time to concentrate on flights that require additional manual processing.

In a nutshell

Advantages

A major advantage of the module is its automatic response to operational changes. A recalculation is triggered immediately, for example, if the aircraft has to be exchanged or the weight of the load alters significantly. The criteria for a recalculation and for situations in which the system aborts a calculation or issues a warning are controlled via a detailed set of rules.
