New check-in solution from Lufthansa Systems / LOT is launching customer
Lufthansa Systems today presented its new Web Kiosk, another innovative check-in component of the GroundSolutions Platform. With this solution, airlines can offer their passengers a fast, flexible airport check-in option without having to use expensive airport systems. As the Web Kiosk is directly connected to the airline’s passenger systems, hardware and operating costs can be reduced significantly.
LOT Polish Airlines will be the launching customer for the Web Kiosk. LOT is already using the GroundSolutions/Web check-in solution and recently opted to add an online upgrade function to this system. The carrier will be able to provide its passengers with a number of check-in services through the Web Kiosk. The solution features various passenger identification methods, enables passengers to choose seats from an interactive seat map and offers the option to credit frequent-flier miles, check in for connecting flights and check in as a group.
The Web Kiosk also includes functions for online upgrades as well as entering and checking the APIS and ESTA information required by various national authorities. This data can be entered easily via touch-screen or keyboard. The Web Kiosk will soon be introduced at Warsaw airport, followed by other airports served by LOT.
“The Web Kiosk offers all the advantages of our integrated GroundSolutions Platform,” said Dr. Anselm Eggert, Senior Vice President Passenger Airline Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “Integrating business services, such as online upgrades, and check-in channels generates important synergies for our customers.”
Because the Web Kiosk is directly connected to the relevant airline systems, there is no need for special servers or regular certification. Therefore airlines can significantly reduce their hardware and operations costs as compared to a common kiosk solution. The Web Kiosk offers passengers the same services as online check-in. With the user interface also being identical, it is easy for passengers to use.
LOT is Poland's largest airline. Established in 1929, the company is headquartered in Warsaw and operates passenger and cargo flights. The airline serves more than 50 destinations in Europe and North America and transports more than 3.9 million passengers annually.
